This part-time position has both scheduled and on-call hours, and responds to fire, hazmat, rescue, medical and other emergency incidents, participates in training and maintenance activities, and provides fire and safety education to the public.

POSITION OPTIONS & SALARY
Temporary Apprentice Firefighter
New hires with no training or experience that do not possess the minimum certifications start as a Temporary Apprentice Firefighter (part-time/on-call) while completing training provided by the Maple Grove Fire Department. Minimum certifications must be completed within two years of being hired. Maple Grove Fire Department pays for the required training and time spent attending the training. The starting hourly pay for all activities is $10.69.
New hires that already have the minimum certifications start as Probationary Firefighters (part-time/on-call). A Temporary Apprentice Firefighter will be considered for a Probationary Firefighter position after they complete minimum certifications. The probationary period is 18-months. The starting hourly pay for all activities is $12.90.
Part-time/On Call Firefighters who have completed an 18-month probationary period become regular firefighters of the Maple Grove Fire Department. The starting hourly pay for all activities is $16.90.
Examples of Duties:
Responds to emergency incidents within his/her assigned district during assigned period meeting minimum participation requirements.
Participates in fire prevention and safety education activities as assigned.
Participates in scheduled drills, and other required training activities, and meets minimum participation and competency verification requirements.
Participates in station and apparatus maintenance activities.
Serves on standby crew and/or duty crew as assigned.
Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned.
Must be 18 years of age.
Education equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade.
Possession of a valid unrestricted Minnesota Driver`s License free of restrictions or suspensions and/or reckless driving behavior.
Must be a Maple Grove resident or live within a 5 minute drive time to a Maple Grove Fire Station at the time of application.
Probationary Firefighter Training & Certifications Required
Minimum certifications at the time of application to be considered probationary:
Certification of NFPA #1001 Firefighter I and II by the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board. IFSAC and/or ProBoard reciprocity must be confirmed prior to appointment.
Certification of NFPA #1072 Hazardous Materials Operations by the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board. IFSAC and/or ProBoard reciprocity must be confirmed prior to appointment.
Additional certifications to be completed within the probationary period:
Certification of NFPA #1002 Fire Apparatus Operator by the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board. IFSAC and/or ProBoard reciprocity or certification completion before end of the probationary period.
Certified Emergency Medical Responder or higher, by the Minnesota Emergency Medical Service Board. Reciprocity must be confirmed or certification completion by the end of the probationary period.
National Incident Management System: 1. IS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS), 2. IS-200: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents, 3. IS-700: Introduction to the National Incident Management System, 4. IS-800: National Response Framework, An Introduction.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in firefighting, rescue, EMS, or other public safety responder experience is desirable, but not required.
Advanced certification in firefighting, rescue, response to hazardous materials incidents, or in provision of emergency medical care is desirable.
Minnesota Firefighter License is desirable.
