This position will work out of GA Forestry Commission’s Liberty County office located in Midway, GA.
A Ranger Exam is scheduled on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Coastal EMC (next door to Liberty GFC office), 1265 South Coastal Hwy, Midway, GA 31320 at 9:00 a.m. (please arrive 30 minutes early to secure a seat, as seating is limited). You must obtain a score of 80 or above on the Ranger Exam to be considered for hire. Test scores are valid for two years from the test date. You will have up to 3 hours to complete the test. The Ranger Exam is a general knowledge assessment that tests items such as comprehension, following directions and other basic skills. No preparation or studying is needed for this test.

Ranger/Wildland Firefighter job duties:
Must live and/or relocate to within 45 minutes of assigned work location.
Under close supervision receives training and instruction in fire control duties using heavy equipment.
Assists with maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Participates in forestry related services and programs such as reforestation, community and school activities.
Controls and extinguishes fires using manual and power equipment.
Ensures proper operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
Inspects and ensures that fire protection and/or fire detection systems are installed in accordance with appropriate laws, codes, ordinances, regulations and standards.
Inspects property to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations.
Operates fire engines and hoselays.
Performs upkeep and maintenance of quarters, buildings, grounds, and hydrants.
Carries out the implementation of fire prevention campaigns.
Operates commercial class transport and medium to heavy duty crawler tractor in wild land fire suppression and construction of pre-suppression fire breaks.
Responds to fire calls and other requests for assistance, such as accidents and other emergencies.
Participates in a rotating “on call” schedule to respond to requests for assistance after hours and on weekends/holidays.
High school diploma or GED AND a minimum score of 80 on the Ranger 1 Written Examination AND ability to obtain a Commercial Driver`s license within 12 weeks of hire date.
