Redwood City (pop. 86,754) is located in the heart of the Silicon Valley and is the county seat of San Mateo County on the San Francisco Peninsula. An ISO Class I agency, the Redwood City Fire Department also serves the neighboring City of San Carlos (pop. 30,145). The Department serves the two communities from seven fire stations and is supported by 87 staff and a FY2020-21 budget of $35.8 million.

Redwood City and San Carlos are seeking a progressive leader capable of leading confidently in times of uncertainty who consistently adheres to high standards. This visionary will be known for connecting easily with a multi-generational workforce and working effectively with diverse communities. The candidate selected must embrace a commitment to equity and inclusion and be passionate about enhancing diversity in the Department. Competitive candidates will offer at least four years of increasingly responsible experience at the rank of Battalion Chief or above. A Bachelor?s degree is strongly preferred and a Master?s degree is desirable.
