The Ideal Candidate
The next fire chief will be a strong, confident, self-directed, solution-oriented leader with impeccable integrity and the highest ethical standards, a person of character. The ideal candidate is adaptable, politically capable, and collaborative, with expert-level communications skills. They lead by example, balancing a command presence with humility. The next fire chief will embrace a complementary role on the high-functioning SMT and support the general manager.

The ideal candidate is passionate about public safety and technically competent in all aspects of the fire service, EMS, and a transporting paramedic system.

The preferred candidate has experience with labor relations and a proven track record of collaboration and the successful balance between the needs of all sides.
They have experience building high-performing teams committed
to diversity, equity, and inclusion, integrating these values in operational practices. The next fire chief must have a commitment to professional development with the demonstrated ability to maximize the potential of all persons under their authority.
The general manager seeks visionary, proactive candidates, who will avoid the status quo when planning the strategic future of the CFD. The next fire chief will be active and highly visible at community events, an effective, faithful ambassador of District initiatives and policies, with a true commitment to community involvement. The next fire chief will embrace the service area as their home.

The next fire chief serves as a management- level peer with the Sacramento Fire Department, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, and Folsom Fire Department, claiming an equal seat at the table alongside them. At the same time, they must relate to the size and character of the smaller CFD, managing with humility and tact. Experience as a chief officer in medium- to large-sized fire departments with a history of progressive and proactive program development is essential.
The primary focus of the next fire chief will be internal to the department. With this said, the next fire chief will be dedicated to being physically present, the boots on the ground and day-to-day leader of the department with an emphasis on enhancing transparency and access to management.



The salary range for this position is $226,416 to $250,872, DOQE. Comprehensive benefits. Relocation assistance subject to negotiation.
