Requirements

JOB SUMMARY:
Directs complex administrative and operational activities. Directs and supervises public safety personnel, service delivery and procedures; coordinates department mission and programs. Serves as the Department director (Fire Chief) in the absence of the incumbent. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:
25% - Essential - Plans, directs, and coordinates comprehensive and strategic planning. Coordinates alignment of mission and objectives with strategic response and training programs. Initiates actions to correct deficiencies. Develops Staffing and response models. Assumes the role of the Director (Fire Chief) in the absence of the incumbent.

20% - Essential - Manages liaison of regional public safety response and telecommunication agencies. Manages relationships with inter-agency planning and projects. Manages the development and implementation of significant policies and protocols. Manages large event planning. Keeps records and makes reports regarding activities.

20% - Essential - Executes orders from superiors. Explains orders, messages and decisions to subordinates; advises subordinates of changes in laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Conducts administrative investigations. Conducts new initiative principle investigation and program development. Manages department Records Management systems and databases.

25% - Essential - Provides direct oversight of the departments Training Officer. Investigates internal affairs and professional best practices and reports findings. Selects, supervises , and Coordinates assessment and evaluation of subordinate public safety personnel through written materials and personal observation.

10% - Essential - Supervises multi-alarm and multi-company incident responses as an incident commander or general staff member. Perform Fire and Emergency Services response operations duties as a firefighter, medical technician, fire safety educator and hazardous material & rescue technician.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - 1st Bachelor`s Degree - Management and supervisory fire prevention or fire-fighting experience.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - 1st Master`s Degree - Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO)
Work Experience - 15+ years directly related Public Safety Management, Human Resources, and Capital Procurement.
Licenses / Certifications - NREMT-P; American Heart Association (BLS, ACLS, PALS) ; National Association of EMT (NAEMT )(PHTLS, AMLS, TCCC).

Develops Department Budgets - Responsible for developing one or more departmental budget(s). Estimated amount of budgetary responsibility $1,000,000.00.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Essential Level 1 employee

Required to respond during an emergency closure or modified operations in order to provide the University`s initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
