Resident Volunteer Firefighter

Resident Volunteer Firefighter program offering free housing and utilities at a SFD facility in exchange for volunteer firefighting and medical responder duties. Participants receive free training, equipment, and may be eligible for stipend. Program designed for students and inexperienced firefighters to gain experience. Participants work with fire and emergency service delivery, public education, fire safety programming, inspections, and apparatus maintenance.

Requirements: At least 18 years old, high school diploma or GED, valid NC driver's license, commitment to obtain and maintain certifications (EMT, Firefighter, Inspector, etc.), pass FEAT, oral interview, background check, physical exams, pre-service drug screening
