Qualifications for Membership

Minimum Requirements
New members (both junior and senior), must serve a probationary period and must pass a firefighter proficiency examination in order to be considered for active membership to the Fire Department. Specific requirements for probationary membership:
- Junior members must be a least 16 years of age
- Senior members must be at least 18 years of age
- United States Citizenship, or Legal Alien Status
- Applicant must pass a departmental medical examination and history given by a Fire Department appointed physician

Applicant must authorize, in writing, allowing the department to conduct a background investigation to include the following information: Employment Information, Educational Information, Military History, Police and Criminal Records, DMV Driver's Record, Health Information and three (3) Character References.

Process leading to Probationary appointment will consist of:
- Completed application be submitted
- Submission of investigation waivers for release of information
- In-person interview process
- Medical examination by fire department physician
- Submit to drug test

Qualifying for active membership: (eighteen years of age or older)
- Active members must pass a "Firefighter Level 1" training course
- Attend a required number of business meetings a year (typically monthly)
- Report to all alarms when possible
- Attend a minimum number of training drills per year
- Show willingness to accept responsibility

Requirements: Age 16+ (junior) or 18+ (senior), US citizenship or legal alien status, pass medical examination, pass background investigation, pass drug test, Firefighter Level 1 training course (for active membership)
