Entry Level Firefighter

The City of Houma Fire Department seeks highly motivated individuals to serve the community with integrity and courage, protecting the lives and property of Houma citizens. Candidates must pass a Civil Service Entrance Exam and complete a Firefighter Recruit training program following Firefighter I standards (NFPA 1001). Starting salary is $31,933.20 per year, increasing to $39,133.20 after 1 year with Firefighter I certification.

Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, at least 18 years of age, valid Louisiana driver's license, pass Civil Service Entrance Exam (75+), pass physical, psychological and drug screening, pass Firefighter I certification training

Salary: Firefighters' starting pay is $31,933.20 per year. After 1 year of service and a Firefighter I certification, all firefighters receive state supplemental pay (an additional $600 per month) for a total yearly salary of $39,133.20 after one year.
