Firefighter (Age 16 or 17)

I will be directly responsible to my superiors in the chain of command in regard to my duties and behavior in the firehouse, at training sessions and drills, at parades and at the scene of emergency calls.

I have permission of my parent or guardian to join the fire company and participate in AFD training and emergency responses.

I will obey all traffic laws and control my car going to and from the firehouse, training sessions, drills, parades and all emergency calls. I will not use participation in Company or District activity as an excuse to drive after 9 pm on a Junior Operating License. I am aware the Company or District will not be responsible or tolerate any violation of this provision.

I will not be permitted to drive any District apparatus. I will ride in enclosed cab areas of the apparatus.

I will not enter a burning building, hazardous environment or other dangerous area except as part of a training exercise and then only under the direct supervision of a Company or District Officer.

I will not be issued a blue light card until my 18th birthday.

I will not participate in any training sessions, drills, parades or emergency calls during the times when I am expected to be in school. I may not use participation in any Company or District activity as an excuse for any missed assignments or deadlines. Violations of this rule may result in immediate dismissal from the Company or District.

I will not be permitted in the firehouse with a visitor or guest unless supervised by another firefighter over 18 years of age.

Upon reaching my 18th birthday, I must attend the NYS Firefighter I or Scene Support course within the stated time period noted above for Firefighter (18 or older).
